Daniel S. Miller Sr.
Daniel Miller Sr., 57, of Rochester, passed away at 5:10 p.m., May 28, 2015.
On July 4, 1957, a firecracker, Dan, was born in Rochester, a treasured son of Arden and Gloria Alspach Miller. Growing up he shared his childhood with three sisters and a brother. He was member of the Rochester High School Class of 1975.
Patriotism beckoned, and Dan answered the call joining the United States Navy in 1974. He was a submariner and was honorably discharged in 1977. Dan continued his love for our country by being active in the Fulton County Honor Guard. Other memberships include the LeRoy Shelton American Legion Post 36, the Veterans of Foreign Wars 1343, Fraternal Order of Eagles, all of Rochester and A.B.A.T.E.
As a tool and die machinist, Dan worked for Lobdell-Emery Manufacturing of Argos. At home he was a master wood crafter creating custom gifts, fabricating nearly anything imaginable for family and special friends. A huge fan of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Dan collected memorabilia and was the proud owner of a 2015 Ultra-Glide trike, electric blue with hot pearl accents. Relaxing while catching the warm summer breezes, Dan enjoyed adventures on his motorcycle. Two favorite destinations are attending Bean Blossom annually and heading down to Indianapolis in August for the NHRA Drag Races.
An accomplished bowler Dan once enjoyed a perfect 300 game at Quick’s Lanes. On summer evenings he stopped to dine at Dick’s Drive-In, enjoying an extra hot tostado with a side of chips with customized “Dan hot sauce.”
Surviving are a son: Dan Cook, Rochester; his mother: Gloria Knox, Rochester; three sisters: Brenda (Mike) Popovich, Springfield, Mo.; Angel (Travis) Skidmore, Rochester; and Pamela (Dave) Daulton, Rochester; several nieces and nephews, and the many friends he made along life’s journey.
Preceding Dan in death are his father and brother: Thomas J. Miller Sr.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31. A celebration of life will follow. Pastor Rod Utter will officiate services. Interment will be in the Reichter Cemetery. His final salute and military rites will be conducted by his friends, the Fulton County Honor Guard, the US Navy Military Rites Team and the Patriot Guard.
