Summer Reading Program
Join us and be a superhero this summer. Our summer reading program starts Monday, June 1. Come into the library and sign up for the program. The theme this year for children is “Every Hero has a Story” and will be for newborns through fifth-graders. For sixth-grade and up, the theme is “Unmask!” For every five hours that a participant reads, they earn a prize. In addition to earning prizes and keeping their reading skills sharp, we invite everyone to attend the wonderful programs for all ages we have scheduled this summer. Stop by the library and get involved in our program. Start reading and turn in your hours and join the league of superhero librarians!
Superhero Carnival
We will kick off our summer reading program at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, with a superhero carnival in the parking lot. Wear your capes and join in on the fun. Superhero Spiderman will be making an appearance that day. Bring your cameras and get a photo with Spiderman. Every summer reading program participant will receive ten tickets to spend on games, snow cones, and popcorn. Bring your whole family.
Teen Event: Transform into a Superhero
Teens come into the library at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, and transform into your favorite superhero. We will be making capes, armbands and masks. Make sure to bring an old T-shirt to make your superhero cape. After we become superheros, we will enjoy a snack. Bring your friends.
Family Summer Story Time
Join us for Family Summer Story Time with your whole family. Our story time is scheduled at 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. Fridays. Each week we will have a guest storyteller and a different topic. Each of the families who attend our story time will receive a book to take home and add to their family library. That is a total of eight books if you come to all eight weeks. Our first week is at 10 a.m. or 11 am. Friday, June 12. Join Maureen Haab as she reads about how you can be a hero. She will read books, do a craft, and provide a snack to enjoy afterwards. Register as soon as possible at the children’s circulation desk or call us at (574) 658-4312. See you on June 12 for the first family summer story time!
Donations Needed
We are gearing up for the summer reading program and need a few items to make some of our crafts. We are looking for T-shirts of any size and any kind so that we can make them into capes with the kids. Along with shirts, we are looking for donations of toilet paper rolls to use this summer as well. If you have either of these and would like to donate, give us a call at (574) 658-4312 or bring them to the children’s department. We appreciate any donations. Let’s make it a great summer reading program.
Friends of the Library
The next friends of the library meeting will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in the library meeting room.
