Come and enjoy a humorous look at superheroes, then and now, at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, when actor and storyteller Terry Lunch, portraying the Greek mythical god Zeus, tells action packed stories of superheroes from past and present. Through fun and humor, the audience will learn how mythological tales of long ago relate to the comic book superheroes of today.
Open to everyone of all ages, this is a summer reading program event held in the North Webster Community Center banquet hall. If your child is signed up for the summer reading program, be sure they bring their reading passport to get stamped for extra credit toward prizes.
Family story time begins with a choice of two time periods, 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 9. Preschoolers, ages 3-5, will learn through stories, songs, and crafts, about the everyday heroes who serve our community. The six-week summer session will be held every Tuesday morning through July 14. Although geared to preschoolers, siblings are welcome to participate as well. Register your child for story time at the youth services desk or call (574) 834-7122, ext. 202.
Echo, the therapy dog, will again be at the library eager to listen to stories 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11. Kids, ages 5-12, can sign up for a 15 minute private session to read aloud to Echo. This enables children to practice their reading skills in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment. Only four appointments are available each Thursday, so you must schedule your child in advance to secure a time slot.
The first Friday family food and fun day will have three time periods, 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 12. Kids and their families will learn about superheroes and villains as they move through four themed stations of activities, crafts, and snacks. Since class size is limited to 25 children, preregistration is required to participate. Be sure your child brings their Reading Passport to get stamped for extra credit.
Youth activities wrap up for the week 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, with LEGO Club. Children, ages 5-12, practice their creative engineering skills as they build with LEGOs. Children under age 9 should be accompanied by an adult. LEGOs provided.
Fitness is the theme for the adult services department next week. Certified Yoga Instructor Sandy Kunce will teach “Chair Yoga” at Lose It At The Library 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 8. She will demonstrate yoga exercise that can be done from a seated position and explain how exercise helps us maintain health and fitness as we age. Her program is free and open to the public.
Then at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, the North Webster Hiking Club will leave from the library to hike the Merry Lea Nature Sanctuary near Wolf Lake. Adults of all ages are welcome to join the hike with easy trails that wind through a variety of ecosystems and unique geological features.
Stop in the library and play the “Bust the Bandit” game. Throughout June and July, patrons can try to guess who robbed the Leesburg train with new clues posted every Monday. You can guess as many times as you like, and with each guess you get entered in a drawing for a chance to win a prize basket.
