CULVER – Liza Lewis saw her outstanding tennis season come to a close Thursday night.

The Warsaw freshman concluded her first prep season with a loss to Rachel Simon of Culver Academies in the individual portion of the state tournament series for No. 1 singles players.

Senior Simon topped freshman Lewis 7-5, 6-0 in action at the gorgeous Culver Academies tennis facility.

“Liza played a great first set,” noted Warsaw coach Rick Orban via text message.

Lewis, one of four freshman in the varsity lineup for the Tigers this spring, advanced in the tourney by winning all three of her sectional matches and then posting an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win Tuesday night during the regional team competition indoors at Culver Academies.

Lewis helped Warsaw claim its 15th straight sectional championship this season. The Tigers ended the season at 10-10 after a 4-1 loss to NLC foe Plymouth Tuesday night in a regional semifinal match.
