Juanita M. King, 85, Rochester, passed away peacefully at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday May 19, 2015, into God’s glorious presence.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1930, in Rochester, the daughter of Bryce and Arlene (Morris) Thompson. Juanita married Edward King on Nov. 3, 1950, in Rochester, witnessed by Devon Ogle and Barb Smiley. He survives.
Juanita graduated from Warren Beauty College in 1948, and worked as a beautician. She then worked at Torin Corp for many years until retiring in 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rochester. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers, baking, taking walks, reading, making afghans and quilts, was an avid I.U. basketball fan, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband: Ed King, Rochester; children: Susan (Rick) Hart, Mentone; Doug (Vickie) King, New Carlisle; John (Jackie) King, Fla.; Scott (Amy) King, Rochester; son-in-law: Mike Thompson, Rochester; grandchildren: Penny (Ringle) (Jason) Sharp, Ohio; Gretchen (Hart) (Johnny) Wadkins, Bourbon; Jordan; Jeremy; Jason; Jaimee; Jennifer; and Janna King, all of Fla.; Nicole; Lana; Davis; and Regan King, all of Rochester; grandaughter-in-law: SHannon Hart, Kingman; step-grandson: Greg Miller, South Bend; great-grandchildren: Zachary Sharp; and Samantha Sharp, Ohio; Aubrey; and Aiden Hart, Kingman; Braeden; Grant; Sadie; Addy; and Oakley Wadkins, all of Bourbon; great-great-grandson: Michael Sharp, Ohio; sisters: Roberta Evans, Rochester; Mary Jo Goss, Columbia City; Carlene Snipes, Rochester; brother: Robert “Bob” (Janice) Thompson, Osceola; step-sister: Betty Jo Ray; many nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter; Jo Ellen Thompson; grandson: Aaron Hart; great-grandson: Caleb Hart; step-sisters: Mary Grund; and Dorothy Richards; and step-brother: John Vernon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday May 23, at Zimmerman Brothers Funeral Home, Rochester, with Dr. Mark Spencer officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 22, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or First Baptist Church.
