basketballELKHART – John Wysong is returning to the ranks as a high school boys basketball head coach.

Wysong, who previously was the head coach at Wawasee, Fairfield and Elkhart Memorial, was approved Monday night as the new coach at Fremont High School.

Wysong spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach for the boys basketball program at Northridge. He helped the Raiders, who are coached by Ronnie Thomas, win a Class 4-A sectional championship this past season.

Wysong coached a total of 24 seasons at Wawasee, Fairfield and Memorial. He has a career record of 295-240 with six conference, five sectional and two regional championships. Wyong stepped down from his second tenure as the Fairfield coach in 2011. He then spent one season as an assistant coach at NorthWood before going to Northridge.

Wysong, who played at Fairfield and then at Tri-State University (now Trine), retired as a teacher from Fairfield in 2014.

Fremont, which plays in the NECC,  went 10-13 during the 2014-15 season.
