Mary HoffmanMary E. Hoffman, 98, of Winona Lake, passed away at 2:01 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

On Feb. 26, 1917, she was born in Kosciusko County, to Casel and Audrea (Zolman) Whetstone. She was united in marriage to Howard Hoffman on June 15, 1935, in Burket, who preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2000.

A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, Mary was a farmer’s wife and later retired as a postal clerk in Silver Lake. She graduated from Mentone High School, Class of 1935. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church and Center United Methodist Women’s Mission Group. In the winter, Mary enjoyed watching Big Ten Basketball and in the summer, she enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs.

She is survived by her son: Miles (Pat) Hoffman, Silver Lake; two grandsons: Brent (Jessica) Hoffman, Silver Lake; and Troy (Sue) Hoffman, Silver Lake; five great-grandchildren: Chelsea; Jade; Noah; Jacob; and Brandon, all of Silver Lake; one sister: Geneva (Don) Emmons, Sammamish, Wash.; and her brother: Leon (Ruth) Whetstone, Grand Rapids, Mich.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Delores June Whetstone; Edith Walters; and brother: Carl Whetstone.

Visitation hours will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 18, at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Kent Harting officiating.
