BREMEN – There wasn’t much doubt which was the better team Thursday night.
Bremen scored at least two runs in all four of its at bats, including a six-run second, in a convincing 14-0 win over Triton in Northern State Conference softball.
The Class 2-A No. 5 Lions were running on all cylinders. Racking up 14 hits, including a trio of doubles, Bremen had several offensive heroes. Shelby Zellmer continued to hit the ball hard, ripping a pair of doubles among her three hits. Brooke Fitch led off for the Lions and collected three hits, including a two-run triple that traveled almost 300 feet in the oversized ballyard at Sunnyside Park.
Micaela Box, Chelsea Huppert and Emily Molden each had two hits and combined for four runs scored and six RBIs.
Huppert was on point again in the circle, scattering three hits and striking out six in four innings of work. Triton, ranked No. 11 in the latest Class 1-A poll, had a chance to get back into the game in the second when Lauren Hostrawser and Brycelyn Garbison picked up back-to-back singles. Huppert, however, dug down and struck out the next two hitters to get out of the jam, which kept the lead at 3-0, setting up the six-run bottom half of the inning.
Triton starting pitcher Garbison gave up nine runs on seven hits while Courtney Jennings didn’t fare much better in relief, giving up five runs on seven hits.
Bremen improves to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in the NSC, in firm control of the final conference go-round. Triton drops to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the NSC.
The Lady Trojans will host Jimtown Friday at Keyser Field.
