Triton Sports Wrap – May 7
The Triton girls tennis team continued its impressive season with another win Thursday evening.
The Trojans won both doubles matches en route to topping host Jimtown 4-1 in a Northern State Conference match.
The team of Kylie Mason and Kolbie Mason won 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 doubles to lead the way for Triton.
Triton got the doubles sweep as the pair of Quinn Downing and Emma Ross prevailed 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot.
Kaelyn Mason and Shayla May each won in straight sets in singles play for the Trojans. Mason won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and May posted a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Carla Murillo of Jimtown defeated Hannah Wvnemacher 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles play.
Jimtown won the junior varsity action 4-2.
The Triton varsity team is now 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the NSC. The Trojans host South Bend Riley on Monday.
Baseball Team Tops Knox
A big start carried the Triton baseball team past Knox 8-4 at Triton.
The host Trojans plated five runs in the first inning en route to the Northern State Conference win.
Winning pitcher Nate Flenar fired a complete game for the Trojans. He also had two hits in the win.
Zac Pitney led the offense with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Cordial Keyser, Grant Stichter and Adam Stevens each also had two hits for the winners.
Triton will host Glenn Friday.
Softball Squad Posts Victory
The Triton softball team topped Culver Academies 8-6 in a back-and-forth contest at home.
The Trojans scored four runs in the sixth inning to take an 8-3 lead. Culver plated three runs in their final at-bat in the seventh to close the contest.
Courtney Jennings notched the pitching win for the Trojans.
Lexee Lemler drove in three runs and Tatum Hargrave two for Triton. Halle Zimmerman had two hits for the winners.
Triton, now 10-7 on the season, will play at Glenn Friday.
Softball Make-up Dates
Triton has announced a pair of softball dates from weather delays earlier this season.
The varsity softball game versus John Glenn will take place Tuesday, May 12, with a 5 p.m. start at Triton. The JV softball game versus LaVille will take place Wednesday, May 13, starting after the varsity game at Keyser Field.
