Wildcats Impressive In Track Win

Whitko SportsSOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko boys track team closed out its home season in style Friday night.

The Wildcats won 10 events to defeat Wabash and Lakeland Christian Academy.

Whitko totaled 100 points, while Wabash scored 61 and LCA had two.

The Wildcats got strong performances from a number of competitors on Senior Night to improve to 7-1 on the season.

Whitko, coached by Ron Cherry, turned in an impressive showing in the field events with wins in all five events.

Alex Wilson took top honors in the long jump by going 19-5 3/4 for the hosts. Derek Miller cleared 5-8 to win the high jump and Will Bumbaugh went 11-0 to claim first in the pole vault.

Standout Walker Hobbs won the shot put with a throw of 48-0. Gavin Howard claimed first in the discus with a winning effort of 132-3.

The Wildcats also won five events on the track. Alex Morales was first in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.28. Daniel Kirkham won the 400 in 53.03 and Wilson won the 200 in 23.13. Josh Wright won the 3,200 in 10:52.4 and Whitko also won the 4 X 400 relay event in a top time of 3:36.4.

Whitko returns to action in the Kelly Relays at Concord High School on May 8.
