The Whitko baseball team toppled Triton 12-1 in five innings in action Tuesday evening.

Zach Snep fired a two-hitter on the hill as the host Wildcats won the non-conference contest. Sep walked one and fanned six in the win.

Hunter Sroufe led the offense for Whitko, which scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. Sore was 3-3 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored.

Drew Bradford went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Whitko.

Landon Kauffman had a hit and a run scored for Triton. Gabe McPherson had the other hit for the Trojans.

Schüler Reichert took the pitching loss for Triton.

Whitko, now 6-6, will play at Manchester on Wednesday. Triton hosts Jimtown on Wednesday.

Tennis Team Drops Close One

The Whitko girls tennis team dropped a 3-2 final Tuesday to Fort Wayne Northrop.

Winning for the Wildcats in straight sets were Morgan Keirn in singles play and the doubles team of Jackie Werstler and Aurelia Slusher. Keirn posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Werstler and Slusher won 6-2, 6-0.

Whitko’s  Delaney Keirn and Mikayla Finley lost in singles play. The Wildcats doubles team of Blair Creamer and Natalie Iholtz also lost.

Whitko will host Wabash on Thursday.

Reed Leads Girls Track Wins

Kaitlyn Reed had a huge night in pacing the Whitko girls track team to wins over Northfield and Manchester.

Reed won the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the high jump as the Wildcats totaled 91 points to best host Northfield (79) and Manchester (70) in a Three Rivers Conference triangular.

Reed also teamed with Elaine Warner, Reghan Craig and Abby Overmeyer to win the 4 X 100 relay race for the Wildcats.

Warner won the long jump competition for Whitko. Also placing first were Madison Cook in the 400 and Michelle Kelsey in the pole vault.

Whitko will host Wabash Friday evening.

JV Baseball Team Posts Win

The Whitko junior varsity baseball team collected a 5-4 win at Rochester.

Zach Hewitt notched the pitching win with 10 strikeouts in six innings of work.

River West went 2-4 with two RBI and also earned the save for the Wildcats. Nic Rose had two hits and two RBI.

Whitko, now 9-2, will host West Noble Thursday.

Boys Track Team Wins Pair

The Whitko boys track team collected two conference wins at Northfield Tuesday night.

The Wildcats totaled 98.5 points to beat both the hosts, who scored 85.5, and Manchester, who had 58, in Three Rivers Conference action.

Six different individuals won events for coach Ron Cherry’s team. Winning for the Wildcats wee Alex Morales in the 110 hurdles (14.9), Daniel Kirkham in the 400 (53.5), Walker Hobbs in the shot put (48-5 1/2), Gavin Howard in the discus (132-8), Brady Weeks in the high jump (5-6) and Jacob Helton in the pole vault (11-0).

Whitko also won a pair of relay events. The 4 X 400 team of Weeks, Morales, Kirkham and Zach Baughman placed first in 3:38.7. The 4 X 100 team of Will Bumbaugh, Garrett Elder, Alex Wilson and Gavin Powell won in 45.0.

Whitko will host Wabash Friday night.
