Shirley M. Apple, 98 a resident of Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, Ind., and formerly of Bourbon, Ind., Tippecanoe, Ind., and Sarasota, Fla., and Sebring, Fla.,  passed away at 10:25 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012.
Shirley was born the daughter of Artie B. Coar and Fern E. Eaglebarger Coar on July 2, 1914 near Summit Chapel at Bourbon. She was a 1932 graduate of Tippecanoe High School. Upon her retirement she and Herschell moved to Sarasota, where she was a member of the Methodist Church and later moved to Sebring, where she belonged to St. John’s Methodist Church. Upon returning to Marshall County in 2008, she became a member of the Bourbon First United Methodist Church.
Shirley farmed all her life along with her husband and worked for Delp Electric. She was a very active person belonging to Order of the Eastern Star as Past Matron, Past Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, Past Regent of the Daughters of American Revolution, a member of the United Methodist Women for over 77 years and Past President of Marshall Co. Federation of Clubs.

Over the years she was active in and taught Sunday school in the Summit Chapel Methodist Church, the Summit Chapel Ladies Aid, and Tippecanoe Home Economics Club. She was a member of the first Blueberry Committee and even

attended the parade this past Monday. She enjoyed crocheting and watching her grandchildren in their sports events.
On Dec. 4, 1933, she married Herschell O. Apple, who died Jan. 29, 1976. She is survived by her two daughters: Carol (Richard) Steele, Cullman, Ala.; and Karen (Richard) Delp, Plymouth; along with 12 grandchildren: Michael and Judy Delp, Don Wendel, Debi and Mark Gidley, David and Pam Delp, all of Plymouth; Marcelo Suvelza, South Bend, Ind.; Connie and Mitch Jolin, Anchorage, Alaska; Scott Ammerman, New Zealand; Brett and Maria Ammerman, Parker, Colo.; Curtt and (Kristina Kershner) Ammerman, Los Alamos, N.M.; Kandi Davis, Monti Apple and Heidi and John Music, all of Bourbon; along with 35 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law: Michael “Hal” and  Linda Apple; a granddaughter: Michele Wendel; a great-granddaughter: Krista Delp; a sister: Carol Louise; and a brother: Carlton Earl.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Summit Chapel Cemetery, Bourbon.
