Falcons Soar Past Tigers
WARSAW – The Fairfield girls tennis team looked every bit like one of the area’s best Thursday night.
The Falcons, led by their outstanding singles lineup, topped host Warsaw 4-1 in non-conference play.
Fairifield, ranked No. 19 in the state, got wins from standouts Emily and Morgan Mast at its top two singles positions to lead the way.
Emily Mast, a two-time All-State selection, beat freshman Ella Knight 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Morgan Mast, the younger of the Mast sisters, topped freshman Colette Smith 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles for the Falcons.
Lauren Streit completed the singles sweep for Fairfield by downing freshman Liza Lewis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Warsaw collected its lone point at No. 2 doubles play. The team of Athena Schlitt and Sydney Hartman beat Hannah Toole and Kirsten Toole 6-4, 6-4.
Fairfield won the No. 1 doubles match as the team of Brooke Hochstedler and Margie Stutzman defeated Camille Kerlin and Rosie Fleming 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
The Warsaw junior varsity beat Fairfield by a 7-1 count.
Winning in JV singles play for Warsaw were Shelby Roberts, Grace Miller and Libby Jenkins. Winning in doubles for the JV Tigers were the teams of Chelsey Farling and Greer Smith, Jenn Katris and Sophia Parke, Julie Frazetta and Bonnie Wong and Courtney Thompson and Corinna Good.
The doubles team of Kylee Zollinger and Atlanta Swank won for Fairfield.
Warsaw, now 1-4, will host Carroll (Allen) on Monday.
