A southern Indiana man who attempted to fake his own death to avoid arrest in 2012 has been released from prison to serve the remainder of his sentence on probation.
Wade R. Meisberger, 43, was released Monday from the Indiana Department of Corrections. He had become a fugitive in 2012 when a probation violation warrant was issued for his arrest due to failure to appear at a mandatory hearing and not keeping his address information up-to-date with the Monroe county probation department.
He was originally convicted of murder in May 1993 in Monroe county and sentenced to 48 years in prison. He was released in September 2007 to serve his remaining sentence on supervised probation.
Law enforcement officials received reports of a man jumping off a bridge in Prestonville, KY, in June 2012. Meisberger’s driver’s license and a note were found at the scene.
However, following the bridge incident, Meisberger posted several videos to YouTube about being alive and hiding from authorities. Police arrested him at Madison Mobile Village in July 2012. His probation was revoked and he was sentenced to serve the remaining 18 years in prison. That ruling was overturned this week following court modification.
Meisberger will now be on probation until August 2027.
