IPFW Hosting “Around the World in an Evening”
To showcase the diversity and abundance of global culture on campus, the Office of International Education at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) presents “Around the World in an Evening” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16 in the Walb Union International Ballroom. The event will feature examples of song, dance, spoken word, and traditional dress from 15 to 20 different countries from around the world, as well as traditional culinary dishes prepared by local ethnic restaurants. The event is free and open to the public.
This is the second event the Office of International Education has presented to showcase the diversity and multiculturalism at IPFW. The first, “Dons From Around the World,” took place in November 2014 and was attended by more than 400 students, faculty, staff, and community members.
“Our first Global Student Celebration was such as success that we decided to do one every semester,” said Meg Underwood, assistant director for international programs. “We are so excited to showcase the talents of IPFW and ELS students and the myriad of cultures that people may not realize are right here in Fort Wayne.”
The event will also include an international student organization fair designed to give the public an opportunity to explore new cultures, see traditional clothing, and engage with international students by asking questions and viewing displays. A Parade of Nations will showcase the countries represented by the students.
Almost 50 countries are represented among IPFW students, faculty, and staff.
