Warsaw Wins Bob Turner Classic

It was only fitting that the Warsaw boys golf team set a new program standard Monday night with a winning performance in the Bob Turner Classic.

The No. 6 Tigers made it a record-setting six invitational wins in a row this spring by winning the event which honors the former, long-time coach of the very successful WCHS program.

Senior Tyler Ostrom led the way with a round of 70 as the Tigers edged past Triton 304-307 to win the event held at the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club near Leesburg.

Jon Schram shot a 73 for Warsaw, which dominated the field to win its fourth straight NLC championship Saturday. The Tigers got an 80 from Bennett Hollar, Jonny Hollar shot an 81 and Tim Ahlersmeyer an 88 for the champions.

Warsaw won with its 304. Triton was second with a 307, followed by Dwenger (317), Warsaw No. 2 (318), Fort Wayne Canterbury (318), Penn (318), Carroll (319), NorthWood (330), Tippecanoe Valley (343), Homestead (345) and Wawasee (352).

Warsaw has now won the Wawasee  Invitational, Joe Harris Shoot Out, Homestead Invitational, Culver Military Invitational, NLC Tourney and the Bob Turner Classic since April 28.

Evan Cultice shot a 76 to lead Warsaw’s No. 2 team  Monday. Jared Essig had a 78, Viraj Gokhale 81, Will Petro 83 and Ryan Cultice 88.

Also competing as individuals for the Tigers were Josh Ahlersmeyer (86), Brandon Eckert (90) and Reid Cameron (91).

Warsaw competes in the Lafayette Jefferson Invitational Saturday. The Tigers then host the sectional June 1 at Stonehenge.
