The Vogue in Broad Ripple welcomes Helmet at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 15 (doors open at 7 p.m.) as part of the Sun King Concert Series. The band will perform their 1994 classic album Betty in its entirety.
Alt-metal heroes Helmet are no strangers to the spotlight. Formed in 1989 in New York City, the group gained notoriety early on for forging jazz time signatures with heavy metal guitar riffs, shaping their sound around influences like Sonic Youth and Dizzy Gillespie. Signing a major label deal with Interscope Records, the band released Meantime in 1992, to critical acclaim. The album went on to achieve gold status and sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Co-produced by the legendary Butch Vig (Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins), their 1994 album Betty launched the group into the spotlight, and was given a four-star rating by Rolling Stone. An alternate version of the album’s third single, “Milquetoast,” was featured in the 1994 film The Crow.
