Nappanee Public library news this week:

Library closed for President’s Day

The library will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, in observance of President’s Day. Regular hours will resume from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Cover to Cover Book Club

Read along with our book club at the library. The club will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, to discuss “Longbourn” by Jo Baker. The book is a re-imagining of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” from the perspectives of it’s below-stairs servants, capturing the drama of the Bennet household from the viewpoint of Sara, an orphaned housemaid.

Reserve a copy of the book by calling the library or going online to our website. The Cover to Cover Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

Study For Your High School Equivalency Diploma

Success is at your fingertips when you enroll in the High School Equivalency program offered by Horizon Education Alliance.

HEA Adult Education helps prepare students to take their high school equivalency exam at the Nappanee Public Library. Anyone who is 16 years or older can be a part of the program, provided they are no longer in school. They offer free computer-based instruction any time of day or night that can either be done at regularly-scheduled times at the Library or at home.

All five subject areas of the HSE are covered in the curriculum, and coaches help students achieve the levels needed to pass the test. Students are very independent in the learning process; they pace themselves and determine how quickly they can take the test. In case you need face-to-face instruction, workshops are held throughout the year. We even offer a practice test to be sure you’re ready for the official exam.

Orientation sessions will be held at the Nappanee Public Library from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, Tuesday, Feb. 10, Wednesday, Feb. 11, Tuesday, Feb. 17, and Wednesday, Feb. 18. Students must attend a complete orientation cycle of 18 hrs to be enrolled in the program.

Once ready, students test at the Elkhart Area Career Center, Adult Basic Education office. The cost of the test is $90, and scholarships are available.

Begin your future now. Getting your HSE is the first step to reaching your career goals whatever they may be. Strengthen your reading, writing, and math skills…but more than that, strengthen your confidence in yourself by getting an HSE. Call Theresa at (574) 215-7019 for more information. Success is at your fingertips.
