South Central, OD Claim Sectional Wins

IHSAA SportsHAMLET – The Triton girls basketball team now knows its sectional semifinal foe for Friday night.

The No. 7 Trojans will face No. 4 South Central in the first semifinal game of the Class 1-A Oregon-Davis Sectional.

South Central edged past No. 5 Culver 38-37 Tuesday night in first-round action at OD. Th host and defending state champion Bobcats beat Argos 61-42 in the other first-round game Tuesday night.

Triton (15-7) will play South Central (19-5) at 6:30 p.m. EST Friday. OD, ranked No. 6 and three-time defencding sectional champion, will then face LaCrosse (13-8) in the second semifinal contest.

Triton defeated South Central 42-35 at South Central back on Dec. 20. The Trojans also own a 60-47 win over Oregon-Davis in a game played at Triton on Jan. 17. The Bobcats beat Triton 60-42 in the sectional title game a year ago.

The championship game is set for Saturday night at OD at 8 p.m. EST.

Hannah Howell led South Central with 12 points Tuesday night. Donna Zehner led Culver with 14 points.

The host Bobcats used a second-half rally to beat Argos. The Dragons led 25-20 at halftime before OD outscored them 22-2 in the third quarter to take control.

Taylor Kranenburg scored 19 points, including 13 in the third quarter, to lead OD to the win.

Alexandria Minix and Alexandria Bope each had 17 points for the Bobcats, who had won 55 in a row at home until losing to NorthWood two weeks ago.

Valerie Rospopo led Argos with 17 points.
