Whitko Sports LogoSOUTH WHITLEY – Visiting Fairfield outscored Whitko for an 80-65 prep boys basketball win Saturday night.

River West canned 28 points to lead the way for Whitko.

Nate Walpole had another big night for the Wildcats with 26 points to go with four assists.

Devon Adkins had five points and five rebounds for the hosts.

Fairfield’s Josh Stephens had a record-setting night for the winners. The senior hit a school record 10 treys in scoring a game-high 30 points. Stephens hit 10-17 from the field, all from beyond the 3-point line. Stephens’ superb shooting night from distance came up just one triple short of tying the Elkhart County record of 11 treys in a game set by former Elkhart Christian Academy standout Ryan Kuperschmid in 2013.

Joe Line had 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists and Brock Goeglein scored 16 points and hit four 3-pointers for the Falcons.

Whitko drops to 6-13 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 12-6.

Whitko won the junior varsity game 38-28. Dalton Frame had 13 points and Alex Robbins nine for the winners. Jake Oberlin netted 11 points and Luke Stephens 10 to lead Fairfield.

Whitko hosts conference foe Manchester next Saturday afternoon. Fairfield hosts Fremont Thursday night.
