Carl Raymond BaysCarl Raymond Bays, 73, of Akron, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at his residence surrounded by family at the age of 73.

In 1962, Carl went to work for the Floyd County Highway Department in Prestonsburg Ky., working there until the fall of 1964 when he moved to Indiana. In 1964 he went to work for Dalton Foundry in Warsaw in the molding department. In 1965 he worked for two different hog facilities one of which was in Hicksville, Ohio, and in 1969 he worked for Gatkes in Warsaw.

From 1970 through 1980 he worked at Clausing where he did electrical work and wired lathes. While working at Clausing he was very involved with the steelworkers union, even served as president of the local union. Also from 1970 through 1980 he worked as a security guard for several companies including Zimmer Inc., L&M Berry both of Warsaw, as well as some others. In 1980 through 1985 he worked for AMPI (Associated Milk Producers Inc.) where he managed the plant.  He moved back to Kentucky in 1985 where he again worked for Floyd County.  In 1987 Carl moved back to Indiana and went to work for Explorer Van of Warsaw until 1997.  In 1997 he returned to work for Dalton Foundry where he mixed sand for the molder until he retired in 2002.  He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County in Claypool, Indiana.

He was born on March 12, 1941, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Sammie Bays Jr. and Dora (Miller) Bays.  On Jan. 25, 1963, he was married to Renessa (Wicker) Bays, who survives in Akron.

He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters: Lisa (Chris) Wine, Rochester; Pam (Mike) Hamman, Akron; and two grandchildren: Christopher Hamman, Bloomington; Daniel Hamman, Bloomington; two brothers: Keith (Phyllis) Bays, Pierceton; Kenith (Diana) Bays, Goshen; and two sisters: Karla (Vic) Lee, Leesburg, Fla.; Alice (Paul) Surface, Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Frank and Earl Bays.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, 58 West 700 South, Claypool. His funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at First Free Will Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, Claypool, and officiated by Pastor Terry Bradford. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Lake View Cemetery of Silver Lake. Arrangements were entrusted to Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, Indiana.
