The Warsaw Christian Schools third graders are reading “The Little House in the Big Woods” by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They recently read a poem about Ma’s chores, and then made literary connections by churning cream to butter just like the poem states.

Then students finished out their reading block by writing their own chore poem: comparing the chores of today to the chores of the past. Students were also able to make scientific connections by watching the liquid cream turn to a solid butter tying into their study of the states of matter.

Best of all, the third graders enjoyed reaping the benefits of their hard work with some fresh bread and homemade butter.
