Lowell J. Welty, 77, of Milford, passed away at 5:25 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at his home.
He was born on May 2, 1937, in New Paris, to Ray and Edna M. (Oswald) Welty.
He graduated in 1955 from New Paris High School and was a lifetime New Paris, Syracuse and Milford area resident. He was married on Nov. 27, 1985, in Warsaw, to Peggy J. ‘Peg’ (Watkins) Green who survives.
He retired from Commodore Corporation in Syracuse and Goshen after over 20 years of service and formerly worked at IXL Cabinets in Goshen for 12 years and Vega Industries in Syracuse for 10 years. He was a member for the First Mennonite Church in Nappanee, Maxwelton Golf Club in Syracuse and formerly attended the Goshen City Church of the Brethren. He loved Indiana University basketball and Wawasee High School sports.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter: Beckie (Jeff) Moore, Syracuse; one grandson: Jeffrey Moore; two stepdaughters: Sue Ann Timmons, Warsaw; Kelly (Alan) Abrams, Leesburg; stepson: Don (Marylee) Hepler, Leesburg; seven step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Barb (Phil) Eiler, Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Janet Carpenter.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, in the funeral home with Rev. Janet McFall-Brown of the church officiating.
Memorial bequest may be given to First Mennonite Church, 900 W. Market St., Nappanee, IN 46550. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
