A Carmel firefighter’s lost good luck charm has been returned thanks to Indianapolis Colts player Ricky Francois.

Lt. Steve Edwards’ helmet, with a four leaf clover keychain he’d had attached for more than two decades, fell off Carmel fire engine #41 last week when it was being driven to a repair shop. He and his wife contacted Eyewitness News WTHR channel 13 to spread the word to would-be finders about the missing helmet with the clover.

“It’s just that sentimental value that something was with him that brought him home safe every day,” said Celeste Edwards.

Luckily, someone did find it – Francois – and got in contact with Edwards to return it. He was able to pick up his helmet with the charm still in place from the Colts facility Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m not a sentimental guy, I don’t have a lot of things that mean a lot to me, but for some reason that stupid little thing started meaning something to me,” said Edwards. He and his wife hope to someday leave the charm to their children as a way to remember their dad and everything he did for their family.
