Norwell Clamps Down On Wawasee

Wawasee Sports LogoSYRACUSE – Norwell gave Wawasee a taste of its own medicine Saturday night in the evening session of the Wawasee Shootout in a 45-21 Lady Knights win.

Wawasee had held Brebeuf to just six combined points in the second and third quarters of the morning game. Brebeuf, consequently, scored just 20 points in the game. Norwell, in turn, held Wawasee to nine points in the final three quarters of the final contest of the four-game shootout.

The Lady Warriors (4-9) jumped out to a stunning 12-6 lead after the first quarter, but went bone dry from the floor the rest of the way. Wawasee made just four jumpers the final three quarters after making six in the first quarter. Norwell, on the other hand, scored 12 points in the second and third quarters to put the game out of reach.

Kaycee Strunk led Norwell (9-3) with 12 points while Mackenzie Sawyer and Hanna Smith each scored nine points.

Kylee Rostochak had 11 of Wawasee’s points, but scored just three in the second half.

The Lady Warriors have not beaten Norwell in the Shootout format since 2007, an eight-game slide to the 3A power in this the 10th year of the four-team grid.

Evening results from the Plymouth-Brebeuf Jesuit game were not made immediately available.

Wawasee returns to action Saturday in hosting Northern Lakes Conference rival NorthWood.
