Warsaw Fire Department along with members of Squad 70, the county’s fire investigation team, and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office are at the scene of a fatal house fire on East Smith Street.
The name of the individual who perished in the fire is not being released at this time. The cause is still undetermined.
Warsaw Fire Department was called at 11:11 p.m. to a duplex at 1031 E. Smith Street, Warsaw, east of Fairlane Drive. Warsaw Fire Chief Mike Brubaker stated when the first units arrived there was heavy fire at the south end of the duplex residence.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire.
Winona Lake Fire Department was called for a full assist. Claypool and Pierceton fire departments were put on standby for Winona Lake. Also at the scene are the state fire marshal’s office and Warsaw Police Department. The American Red Cross also was contacted to provide a canteen for fire fighters.
