WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian Academy recently held its fifth annual induction ceremony for the LCA Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction class of 2014 was recognized during the school’s Homecoming festivities.

Kristin Calizo (Doron), a 1992 graduate, played volleyball, basketball and softball for the Lady Cougars. Calizo played on the Indiana Christian Athletic Association (ICAA) state championship volleyball team her sophomore and junior years and was named to the ICAA All-State volleyball team three consecutive years, 1988-1990.

She also excelled on the hardwood, leading the Lady Cougars to ICAA state basketball championships in 1990 and 1991, and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Calizo sank the winning shot at the buzzer to capture the title in ’91.

A three-season athlete, Calizo led LCA to the 1991 ICAA state softball championship her junior year as well.

Inducted for ‘Meritorious Service’ were Barry and Kathy Blocher.

The Blochers were closely associated with Lakeland Christian Academy from 1998-2009, when their four sons – Daniel, David, Brian and Benjamin – attended the school and participated in the athletic programs. The Blochers were a tremendous encouragement and support to LCA through their generosity to the athletic department and the school as a whole.

A major part of their efforts was related to the gymnasium, but included other areas of the building and grounds as well. Kathy Blocher served on the school board during several of those years.

Barry and Kathy Blocher showed their hospitality many times by opening their home to host school social events and impacted the school in several other ways, to which their legacy was honored.
