SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s swim program both added Northern Lakes Conference wins Tuesday night in lopsided victories against Elkhart Memorial.

Memorial was able to take three of the four speed races, otherwise, Wawasee won the other 21 of 24 events in a 119-64 boys win and 127-56 girls win at the Wawasee Natatorium.

The Warrior boys earned its first win of the season with a fine showing from the trio of Spencer Naugler, Brady Robinson and Logan Brugh. All three were double winners, with Brugh winning the 200 free (1:55.21) and the 500 free (5:08.30), Robinson the individual medley (2:09.77) and the breaststroke (1:07.15) and Naugler the butterfly (1:01.35) and backstroke (1:04.58).

Wawasee (1-1, 1-1 NLC) claimed all three relays, the medley at 1:58.66, the 200 at 1:41.37 and the 400 at 3:40.08.

Mylon Betts added a win in diving, posting a top score of 205.50.

The girls were just as impressive in moving to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in the NLC. Shelby Adams, Bre Robinson and Paige Miller gave the ladies a trio of double winners, Adams taking the 200 (2:04.65) and the breaststroke (1:13.06), Robinson the butterfly (59.40) and the backstroke (1:00.30) and Miller the individual medley (2:13.82) and 500 (5:16.59).

Kayla Hershberger added a win in the 100 (57.68) and Hannah Rhoades led the divers with a total of 178.75.

Wawasee’s medley relay won at 1:59.04, the 200 free relay at 1:45.59 and the 400 free relay at 3:54.65.

Memorial’s breakthroughs came in the 50, where Ally Bailey edged Kendra Miller at 26.27, and Branden Macklem won both the 50 (24.32) and the 100 (53.37).

Wawasee’s boys also had Eric Park swim a lifetime best in the 500 (6:25.66), Isaiah Metcalf a lifetime in the breaststroke (1:21.77) and Chase Ritter post a lifetime best in the backstroke (1:19.76). Lizzy Brugh aided the girls with lifetime bests in the 200 free (2:20.72) and butterfly (1:17.65).

Wawasee will return to the competition pool Tuesday for a showdown with NLC power Concord. Diving begins at 4:45 p.m. and swimming at 6:15 p.m. at the WMS Natatorium.
