BOURBON – In a matchup of two of the top girls basketball teams in their respective classes, this round went to NorthWood. The Lady Panthers maintained its consistency long enough to build a lead Triton could not overcome in a 43-26 final Tuesday night at the Trojan Trench.
A 10-point lead at the half by NorthWood quickly ballooned into a 19-point bulge after three quarters as NorthWood held Triton to just three points in the pivotal third quarter.
The iron was unkind to Triton scoring ace Kylie Mason, who hit just two of 13 field goals and finished with just four points. Mason missed all six of her three-points attempts.
Becca Kennedy led Triton (3-2) with eight points and Jaela Meister finished with six points and eight boards.
NorthWood (3-2) did not light the world on fire from the floor, shooting just 35 percent (16-46) from the floor. Haley Roe led the winners with 12 points on six of 11 shooting. Jordyn Frantz, signed to continue her collegiate career at St. Louis University, was a dismal one of eight from the floor, but had five offensive and 14 total rebounds to go with her seven points. Frantz also added three assists and a steal.
NorthWood won the junior varsity matchup by a 29-22 score over Triton.
Triton will return to the court Saturday morning against Wawasee in the Triton Tournament opposite Leo and Pendleton Heights. NorthWood will host Penn next Tuesday.
