Students in Jessica Long’s fifth grade class at Pierceton Elementary recently wrote persuasive essays on a charity that they felt passionate about. They had to research their charity and write a persuasive letter, which they would later present, on why the class should donate to their organization.
To make a competition out of it, the class had a penny war. Students brought in spare change for a week and raised $125.64.
After their presentations, The Magical Meadows of Warsaw won the class donation. Lily Spurlin was the author of the winning essay.
Tammy Stackhouse came for a classroom visit Nov. 10 to talk about The Magical Meadows and receive the donated money, which will pay for a six week riding session for one of the organization’s 80 riders.
Spurlin, the author of the essay, was also given a complimentary riding session with her family for bringing awareness to the organization.
