Rivals Warsaw and Wawasee will clash in the first round of the Warsaw Tennis Sectional.
Tournament pairings were drawn Monday night and the Tigers and Warriors are slated to play Wednesday at 5 p.m. at WCHS.
Warsaw, which beat Wawasee 4-1 on April 26 at Warsaw, is the heavy favorite in the five-team field.
The Tigers, who are scheduled to play Culver Academy Tuesday, have won 11 straight sectional titles under coach Rick Orban.
“We expect to win and should win, but you can never take anything for granted,” say Orban after watching his team place second in the NLC Tourney at Concord last week. “Sure, we are the favorites having won 11 in a row. But, we can lose.
“Are we taking it for granted? No we’re not. Our girls will be focused I can tell you that.  How we played in the NLC Tourney bodes well for us in the sectional.”
The Tigers, who have had injuries to a slew of players this season, are led by Sarah Hartle. The lone senior, who has battled through a serious heel injury, capped a 40-0 NLC mark for her career by winning the league tourney title last Friday.
The Warsaw-Wawasee winner advances to play Tippecanoe Valley in a semifinal match at 5 p.m.  Thursday. The other Thursday  semifinal at 5 p.m. pits Columbia City versus Whitko.
The sectional finale at WCHS is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The sectional champion advances to the Culver Academy Regional on May 22. The Warsaw Sectional champion will face the Bremen Sectional winner in a regional semifinal. The other semifinal will pit sectional champions from Culver Academy and Peru. The regional final is set for May 23.
Triton plays in the Bremen Sectional, which begins Wednesday. The five-team event also includes Bremen, Glenn, LaVille and Plymouth.
The Trojans face LaVille Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, Glenn plays Bremen in one semifinal and Plymouth takes on the winner of the Triton-LaVille match in the other semifinal, both at 4:30 p.m.
The championship match at Bremen is slated for Friday at 4:30 p.m. Plymouth has won 11 straight sectional titles and 27 overall.
