Milford Redevelopment Commission discussed impending work to be done on the
east side wastewater lift station and an ongoing annexation at a short meeting Thursday at Milford Town Hall.
The commission recognized efforts on the part of Randy Veach, Milford utilities superintendent, to decrease the expected cost of replacing the lift station.
The town plans to take advantage of the deteriorated condition of the lift station to expand it at the same time it¹s upgraded, for the purpose of accommodating future industrial growth in the area. TIF funds will be used to repay the town for the work, which initial estimates thought could run $186,000.
However, a lower-than-expected bid dropped the price to $120,000 and the fact the town already owns one of the expensive pumps needed brought the cost to $73,543.89. The commission voted to approve a payment to the town not to exceed $75,000 for the work, which will begin Monday.
“I think it’s sized right, and it¹s necessary to serve that district out there,” Commission President Dan Brown said during the discussion. “And with Randy’s work, we’re well within the budget approved for that project.”
In other business, members noted a public hearing regarding the voluntary annexation of 250 acres northeast of town will take place at a regular meeting of the Milford Town Council Monday. Indiana legislative process offers residents the chance to voice their opinion about the annexation at this public hearing and at a second hearing, likely to take place June 11.
Then the council can take action to adopt a fiscal plan for the annexation.
An adequate water supply is already available to the property and will not need to be expanded until there is significant development at the site. If that happens BRTB company, the current owner of the property, will be obligated to provide land for a new pumping tower or station.
The commission will reconvene at 10 a.m. June 7 at the Milford Town Hall, 121 S. Main St.
