ROUTSON DEALS, FRESHMEN KNOCK AROUND NORTHWOOD
The combination of senior Gabi Routson in the pitching circle and a trio of freshmen propelled Wawasee to an 8-1 win over NorthWood Monday night in NLC softball.
Routson was sharp, allowing just six hits to the Lady Panthers and striking out 12 while walking no batters. The lone NorthWood blow came in the fourth when Jodi Ramer cracked a solo homer.
Wawasee (12-11, 6-4 NLC), on the other hand, had freshmen Priscilla Weikart, Sam Malik and Paige Hlutke all collected two hits. Weikart had a homer and four RBIs while Malik and Hlutke each doubled and scored twice.
The Wawasee JV circled the bases via a plethora of walks in beating NorthWood 12-2. The Lady Warriors (13-3) had just three hits, two coming from Noelle Beck, who drove in three runs.

PENN SWEEPS AT TIPPECANOE LAKE
The Kingsmen continued to play stellar golf at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, shooting a 154 in the annual triangular with Wawasee and LaVille.
The Lancers were the surprise of the night, scoring a 160 while Wawasee trudged in with a 165. It marks the sixth straight year Penn has beat Wawasee head-to-head at TLCC, and the first time LaVille beat Wawasee.
Patterson led all golfers with a 36 for the Kingsmen, with Grant Spiritoso and Caelen Rohan each firing a 39 and JT Schwartz and Tommy Butler both carding 40s.
Zach Gurtner led the Lancers with a 37 and brother Cam plus Zach Hostetler each had 40s while Javi Galan shot a 43 and Blake Berger a 45.
For Wawasee (7-3), Tristan Atwood, Luke Jackson and Maclain Herr all shot 41, Derek Zurcher a 42 and Dylan Cousins a 43.
Penn’s JV trumped Wawasee, 160-170. Mason Germonprez and Jordan Melching each had 42s to lead the Warriors.
“It was kind of a mixed bag tonight,” said Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “No one really played poorly, but we didn’t get that one or two low scores you need to compete.”

KLEM SHARP, NORTHWOOD ROLLS
NorthWood pitcher Tommy Klem was nearly unhittable Monday night, firing a two-hitter at Wawasee in an 8-1 win for the Panthers in Nappanee.
Derrick Sorensen and Gabe Rhodes had the lone hits, only singles, with Rhodes driving in the only run of the game for Wawasee (4-13, 2-8 NLC) in the fourth inning.
Klem didn’t need much help, but got it in the form of a six-run second inning, where the Panthers chased Sorensen from the hill. Tanner Roberts led the Panthers with a double.
NorthWood scored eight runs in the third and six more in the fourth to bury Wawasee, 15-4, in the JV contest Monday night. Drew Wright had a double for the Warriors, now 4-10 on the season.
