Kimberly Cates is the newest member of the Turkey Creek Advisory Board, winning the nod during a Saturday morning caucus.

Cates was contested by John Heckaman to fill the unexpired term of Richard Waterson. Waterson resigned from the board when he moved out of the township.

Prior to the precinct committee vote this morning, Cates and Heckaman were allowed to give a short presentation on why they were seeking the board position. Cates said she believes the current board has done an excellent job with keeping the tax rate in check and by maintaining a quality fire and EMS service. She also said she believes her education and background in business would allow her the knowledge to look at things objectively and for the good of the township.

Heckaman, who has lived in Syracuse his entire life, said he has a particular interest in lake easements and in seeing that the fire and EMS services remain the best they can be. He stressed he is a good listener and would always be available.

At the end of the voting, Cates was named the winner and thanked those who voted for her saying, “I promise I’ll do a great job.”
