Plymouth Claims Tennis Title
CULVER – Make it 18 straight sectional titles for the Plymouth boys tennis program.
The Pilgrims blanked Bremen 5-0 Saturday in the title match of the Bremen Sectional, which was played at Culver Academies due to the inclement weather.
Plymouth, now 15-1, advances to the Culver Academies Regional Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to face conference foe Warsaw (9-6) in one semifinal matchup. The Pilgrims, who beat Warsaw 4-1 in their league regular-season meetings, lost to the Tigers 3-2 in the regional final a year ago.
John Hunter led the way for the champions Saturday with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles.
The Pilgrims also got straight set wins from John Gerard at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-0) and Nate Knapp at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-2).
The Plymouth No. 2 doubles pair of Nick Felke and Brayden Davidson won 6-1, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Johnson and Max Holloway completed the shutout with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win.
It was the 25th overall sectional championship for the Pilgrims.
Plymouth defeated LaVille 5-0 and Bremen blanked John Glenn 5-0 in sectional semifinal action on Friday.
