WARSAW – There is still work to be done for the Warsaw volleyball team.

The host Tigers though earned at least a share of the Northern Lakes Conference title Thursday night by downing NorthWood 3-1 in league action in the Tiger Den.

Warsaw posted a 25-17, 24-26, 25-11, 25-16 win over the Panthers to move to 6-0 in the conference.

The Tigers lead the league standings with Elkhart Memorial and Concord each having one loss in conference play. Warsaw beat Memorial 3-2 in the conference opener in August and will host Concord next Thursday night in the league finale.

Warsaw won the NLC title in 2012, going 7-0 to break Memorial’s decade long stranglehold on the conference championship.

“It’s nice for the girls to accomplish one of their season goals, but they know they still have work to do with the final conference game on Thursday against Concord,” said Warsaw coach Mike Howard.

Warsaw took the lead early in the first set, and behind a great save by senior Katie Voelz which led to a score from Caroline Mayer put the icing on the first set.

“We had some ball handling and hitting errors, but we were efficient throughout the game,” Howard said.

After giving up the lead in the second set, even after Peyton Adamiec’s impressive diving save to keep the set alive they ultimately lost the set. The Tigers’ struggles continued into the start of the third set.

“Northwood played great defense had to be patient as they dug a lot of balls made us swing in different places and we made good adjustments,” Howard said.

After the rocky start, the Tigers stormed back for the win.

Warsaw got strong performances from Peyton Adamiec with three aces and 15 digs, Cassie Hoag with 32 assists, Jordyn Lindeman with seven blocks, and Katie Voelz with 13 kills.

The last set the Tigers were clicking on all cylinders including pulling ahead with three straight blocks by Jordyn Lindeman, Cassie Hoag, and Courtney Steffensmeier to save point with Katie Voelz putting down the hammer to put the match out of reach for the Panthers.

Warsaw improves to 22-4 overall and 6-0 in league play. The Tigers will be back in action Monday at non-conference foe Huntington North.

The Warsaw junior varsity defeated NorthWood 25-22, 25-17 Thursday evening.

Nikki Parrett had seven kills and Alexia Day six to lead coach Chandra Hepler’s team. Abby Serbousek had eight assists as did Alicia Sikora. Kenzie Welk had three aces and Serbousek two. Raina Armey had seven digs, Welk six, Serbousek five and Jamie Grose three. Dayton Groninger had a block.

The Warsaw JV team is now 15-2 overall and 4-2 in the NLC.

The Warsaw freshman team made it a clean sweep Thursday night by beating NorthWood 25-24, 25-18. The frosh Tigers are now 16-5 on the season.
