[UPDATE: The boil advisory issued on Sept. 22 has been canceled by the Town of Etna Green. According to a release provided by Barry Baker, Etna Green Water Works Official, the water distribution issue has been corrected and bacteriological samples have been collected from “representative site(s)” of the affected area and tested. These tests were reportedly satisfactory and it is no longer necessary to boil water.]

In consultation with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, it has been determined that water customers in Etna Green should boil their drinking water.

In a press release issued today by Barry Baker, Etna Green Water Works official, Baker stated “This precautionary measure is recommended because we experienced a power outage during routine maintenance on the water tower causing the water pressure to drop below 20 psi in the distribution system.”

It is recommended that all cooking and drinking water be brought to a complete boil for 5 minutes before using. Residents are advised to boil all cooking and drinking water until notified it i no longer necessary. Baker notes that it is hoped the issue will be resolved by Wednesday, Sept. 24.

Until the advisory is lifted however, residents are asked to conserve water and only utilize what is necessary for personal and household needs.

“We appreciate your cooperation during this time and will update you as necessary until the drinking water problem has been solved,” stated Baker.

Those with questions regarding the boil advisory are directed to contact the water department at 574-858-9321.
