Warsaw Sports LogoPLYMOUTH – The Northern Lakes Conference football opener between Warsaw and Plymouth on Friday night got started, but fell victim to Mother Nature’s wrath.

The Tigers trailed the Rockies 7-3 with 6:17 left to play in the first quarter when the game was stopped due to lightning in the area. Officials announced after a delay of about 75 minutes that play has been suspended until 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Plymouth High School.

Warsaw, 1-1 on the season, took a 3-0 lead with 10:28 to play in the opening period on a 28-yard field goal by Caleb Klusman. The score came after Warsaw’s Caleb Wooldridge recovered a fumble at the Plymouth 11-yard line on the Rockies’ second play of the contest.

The Rockies, ranked No. 10 in Class 4-A and 2-0, then went on an 80-yard scoring march. The hosts took the 7-3 lead on a 10-yard touchdown run by Taylor Fulton with 8:12 to play in the first quarter.

The Tigers had the ball at their own 37-yard line with 6:17 to play when the contest was stopped. The game will resume from that point Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
