North Webster resident J.B. Routh brought up the topic of what the new lift station for the sewer system looks like by his home on Center Street Extension in North Webster at the town’s Tuesday night council meeting. He noted, “We are all friends and this is for your information but, the new station blocks our view of Webster Lake and is not very attractive.”

Severn Trent Services Utilities Supervisor Jeremy Sponseller answered, “We don’t do these things on a whim. A lot of thought and planning go into what we are doing. We do consider nearby homeowners as well as costs to the town’s taxpayers and maintenance and engineering issues for lift stations.”

Routh said he and neighbor Bob Parks would be willing to chip in some money to modify or beautify the station near their homes. Town council president Jon Sroufe instructed utility manager Mike Noe to get with Routh and Parks and come up with some solutions and costs. The issue was tabled until the next meeting.

The council approved seven stop signs for several alleys within town limits and agreed to the installation of no parking signs for Blaine Street near the North Webster youth baseball fields.

The closing of West Washington Street from Morton Street to Blaine Street for the 67th annual Mermaid Festival June 13-16 was given the nod. It was requested by the sponsoring organization, the North Webster Lions Club. “This is what we do every year,” explained Sroufe.

The first Music In The Park free concert will be held 7 p.m., Friday while the first free Webster Lake Ski Bees Waterski Show will be Saturday, June 9. The public is encouraged to attend these events in North Webster Town Park and to bring their own seating. The Dixie will begin cruising around Webster Lake beginning Friday as well.

The new parking lot was utilized during the Antique Motor Show last Saturday, which had a good crowd according to Hine.

Members of the North Webster Town Council are Sroufe, Hine and Lisa Stombeck. Betsy Luce is the town’s clerk-treasurer. The next scheduled meeting of the council is set for 6 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
