MISHAWAKA – The Warsaw volleyball team lost for the first time this season Monday night.
Perennial power Mishawaka Marian, ranked No. 4 in Class 3-A, defeated the visiting Tigers 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.
Katie Voelz led Warsaw, now 5-1 on the season, with eight kills. Haley Peterson and Kenzie Welk each had five kills and Jordyn Lindeman four.
Voelz also led her team with three aces and three blocks. Lindeman and Caroline Mayer each had one ace. Lindeman, along with Mayer, Peterson and Welk each had one block.
Setter Cassie Hoag dished out 35 assists for Warsaw. Peyton Adamiec had six assists and led the team with nine digs. Hoag had eight digs and Voelz and Mayer each had five.
Warsaw opens Northern Lakes Conference play at Elkhart Memorial Thursday night starting with the JV match at 5:30 p.m. The defending NLC and sectional champion Crimson Chargers are ranked No. 14 in Class 4-A and are 2-0 on the season, including a 3-2 home win over Marian last Thursday.
The Warsaw junior varsity team topped Marian 25-18, 12-25, 15-11 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Alexie Day led the JV Tigers with five kills. Abby Serbousek had four and Alicia Sikora and Lucy Fowler each had two. Sikora had 11 assists and Raina Armey one.
Day led the winners with three aces, while Nikki Parrett and Jamie Grose each had two. Serbousek had 16 digs, while Grose had 10 and Armey eight. Fowler had one block.
The Warsaw freshman team defeated Marian 25-13, 21-25, 15-12.
Emma Gelbaugh had four kills and Kara Kline and Sierra Devenney each had three and Kyle Kohler one. Emali Grose had 18 assists for the winners. Kohler had two aces and Gelbaugh, Kline, Devenney and Clarie Clements each had one. Kohler and Clements each had two digs and Gabby Hamill one.
The Tiger frosh team, also now 2-0, plays at Elkhart Memorial Thursday.
