Family members of Nicholas S. Phillips tell StaceyPageOnline.com that the 28-year-old Warsaw man involved in an early Friday morning bar fight is in Lutheran Hospital fighting for his life.

Phillips is in the ICU unit where he is suffering from brain swelling. He is unable to maintain consciousness and is somewhat unaware of his surroundings. Doctors tell his family that Phillips may suffer changes in behavior and motor skills due to the severe brain trauma.

According to Warsaw Police, Phillips suffered facial and head injuries after being struck by Joe Garrett Swanson, 28, also of Warsaw, in a fight outside of Rex’s Rendezvous.

Swanson turned himself into police custody at 4:20 p.m. Friday. He has been charged with aggravated battery and police say that is due to his background in mixed martial arts fighting. His bond was set at $10,000.
