Doors of opportunity may have to be knocked down in today’s world, but nonetheless a group of 41 senior students at Wawasee High School will graduate with something impressive to list on their resume.
Thursday evening, the 41 students were inducted into the high school’s Academic Hall of Fame during a banquet in the main gymnasium. Eventually a group photo of the 2012 class will be on display in a main hallway as a visible indicator of academic excellence.
To be eligible for induction in the hall of fame, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 10.0 or higher on a 12 point scale by the end of their 11th trimester.
In his closing remarks, after each student was honored, WHS Principal Don Harman said opportunities still exist for students but “you may have to pound some of those doors down” in an uncertain world.
Harman said each student should realize they have made a positive impact on teachers, the entire high school and the community.
Pam Schumm, WHS teacher, welcomed the audience. The invocation was given by Paul Meyer, WHS guidance counselor. Dinner was catered by Dan’s Pies with the assistance of culinary arts students at WHS.
Students were then presented certificates and a small gift. Mike Schmidt, assistant principal at WHS, read each student’s name and they came forward accompanied by the teacher they recognized as having the most impact on their studies.
