Wawasee earned its first Northern Lakes Conference baseball win of the season Friday night, protecting its home turf in a 4-2 over Goshen.
The Warriors scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and kept Goshen to just a two-run fourth inning.
Derrick Sorensen led Wawasee (4-10, 1-5 NLC) with a pair of doubles and earned the win on the mound, working six innings of two-hit ball. Si Shear also had two hits and took the hill in the seventh to pitch a perfect inning for the save.
Goshen’s (4-12, 0-6 NLC) two hits came in the form of a double by Luke Harris and a triple from Austin Henke.
“We played great defense and this is what I was looking for all year,” said Wawasee head coach John Blunk.
The Wawasee JV also earned a win, trumping Goshen 8-3. Nate Prescott and Donovan Navarro each had two hits. EJ Solina pitched into the seventh to get the win.
