Syracuse Town Councilman Bill Musser said the new pedestrian bridge on Harkless Drive in Syracuse is completed. “It’s hard to believe all the walkers, joggers and bikers that use this road on a daily basis, and this will get them off the road and out of traffic,” Musser said in an email. “It’s a great addition to the town that corresponds with the sidewalk paths and plans.”

The bridge took about a year to complete. It was built indoors at Gravelton Machine Shop and then it was trucked to a galvanizing plant to be galvanized before being delivered to Syracuse. Town labor and talent constructed the boardwalk and concrete approaches to the bridge.

A $30,000 K21 Foundation grant was awarded to help pay for the bridge. Musser said because of the hard winter, there was a need for bracing the bridge on the south end, which is on a slope. “It’s a great addition … the city did a good job on this,” Musser said.

Jeremy Sponseller, public works superintendent, said motorized vehicles are not allowed on the bridge.
