The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, in conjunction with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, have completed an investigation into the death of 13-month-old Emily R. Smith and found the baby died of natural causes.

An autopsy was performed on the girl at Kosciusko Community Hospital on Wednesday.

Smith was found unresponsive by her mother’s fiancée in their residence in the 8100 block of East Cassandra Drive, Syracuse, at about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. The man started CPR and called 911.

An ambulance from the Syracuse Fire Department arrived on scene along with Syracuse Police Department and continued CPR. Syracuse Fire Department paramedics transported Smith to Kosciusko Community Hospital where the baby was pronounced deceased.
