Kosciusko County Republican Chairman Randall Girod has announced three separate caucuses to fill vacancies to elected positions. Two of the caucuses will be held May 1, the third will be May 5.
The vacancies are for Kosciusko County Council District 4, Franklin Township Advisory Board and Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board.
The May 1 caucuses will be to fill the unexpired term of Jon Kinsey, on the Kosciusko County Council, District 4, and the unexpired term of Theresa K. Alber on the Franklin Township Advisory Board. Both vacancies were due to the deaths of the office holders.
The caucus to fill the county council position will be held at 7 p.m. followed at 7:30 p.m. by the Franklin Township caucus. Both will be held in the Munson Building, 217 N. Lake St., Warsaw.
County Council District 4 encompasses the following precincts: Lake 1 and 2; Seward 1 and 2; Franklin 1 and 2; Jackson 1 and 2; Clay 1 and 2; Monroe; Wayne 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9; and Washington 3.
To date two individuals – Kelly Prater of Claypool and George E. Klinger, Warsaw – have filed declarations of candidacy for county council.
The third caucus will be at 10 a.m. May 5, at Turkey Creek Fire Station No. 2, 8138 E. McClintic Rd., Syracuse. That will be to fill the unexpired term of Richard Waterson on the Turkey Creek Township Advisory Board. Waterson resigned from the board after moving from the township.
Interested eligible individuals — those residing in District 4 for county council, or Franklin Township or Turkey Creek Township for the respective township board — for any of the positions must file a declaration of candidacy with Girod no later than 72 hours before the start of the caucus. Declaration of candidacy forms are available at the county clerk’s office at the Justice Building, Warsaw.
Only eligible Republican Precinct committeemen will cast votes for the replacement. The caucuses are open to the public.
