It was a stellar day for the Warsaw boys’ track team at the prestigious Goshen Relays Saturday. A record-setting performance from its 4 X 800 relay helped the Tigers tie for the team title in Class A.

Warsaw piled up 91 points to earn the title along with Fort Wayne Carroll. The tie was the first-ever in Class A and just the third overall in the 70-year history of one of Indiana’s top meets.

The foursome of Ismael Calderon, Jacob Poyner, Ellis Coon and Spencer Rheinhardt set the tone early on for Warsaw. The quartet set the lone record in Class A in winning the 4 X 800 relay in 7:58.70.

Poyner also teamed with Rheinhardt, Wyatt Jones and Chad Goon to win one section of the 1,600 relay in 3:25.15. Poyner also was second in one of the 1,600 races.

Zack Rooney was second and teammate Stephen Kolbe third in the high jump for Warsaw as each cleared 6-3. Warsaw last won the Relays championship in 1952 when the program won the Class B championship.
