NORTH WEBSTER – The last day for kids to earn prizes in the library’s Summer Reading Program is July 26, so be sure they finish up their reading and get their Reading Passports stamped by this Saturday.
Then join us for the Grand Finale Picnic on Wednesday, July 30, at 6:00 p.m. in the North Webster Community Center gym. Each family should bring a picnic supper to feed their family. Kids who have completed at least four hours of reading by July 26 will get a free hotdog.
Ace Hardware of North Webster will provide a bouncy house for the kids to enjoy with doors opening at 5:00 p.m. There will be lots of prizes for everyone. Children who have completed a minimum of 24 hours of reading are eligible for the children’s grand prize drawing for one of two 20-inch mountain bicycles donated by Burke’s Repo Outlet. Teens who have completed a minimum of 24 hours of reading are eligible for one of three Teen Grand Prize drawings of book sets with $25 gift cards and a Kindle e-reader donated by the Friends of the Library with a $10 iTunes gift card.
It’s been a fun and busy summer of reading, events, and activities, so let’s celebrate. The Library will close early on July 30 at 5:00 p.m. so the entire library staff can join in the fun.
The adults in Voyager Book Club will celebrate summer by reading and discussing “beach read” books that each have read on Monday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. This monthly book club allows members to read any book they want within an assigned genre and then meets the fourth Tuesday each month to share what they have read. The genre for August will be children’s books.
“Fruits of Good Health” will be the program for Lose It @ The Library also on Monday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. Following the confidential weigh-in that charts each participant’s progress, R.N. Mary Erb will present the health benefits of including fruit in your diet. Lose It @ The Library is a free weekly weight loss support program that meets every Monday evening.
Learn the techniques for canning raw and cooked meats in the Advance Canning Class on Saturday, August 2, at 10:30 a.m. taught by Olivia Frantz Coons. An avid canner who learned from her mother, she will also talk about safe food canning methods as well as the health, economic, and convenience benefits of home canning. No advance registration is needed to take this class. Just show up and bring your friends.
Stop in the library’s Local History and Genealogy Center and browse our new historic photo gallery. Historic photos of local places, people, and events are displayed in the back hallway for your interest and enjoyment.
