joseph g stump ligonierJoseph G. Stump, 89, of Ligonier, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1925, to Asa and Pearl (Galloway) Stump in Kimmell. On Dec. 23, 1943, Joseph married Lois Winebrenner in Little Rock, Ark. She preceded him in death. He then married Amanda ‘Becky” Zehr in 2004. She preceded him in death. He graduated from Wolf Lake High School in 1943 and went on to serve his country honorably in the US Army during World War II and was a participant in the Battle of the Bulge. Joseph received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He had worked as a farmer in the area his entire life. He was a member of Wawasee Chapel. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are children: Judy (Terry) Riordan, Lincoln, Neb.; Norris (Judy Rohrer) Stump, Cromwell; Joseph Glen (Ellena Collins) Stump Jr., Grabill; Kay (Les) Rosenogle, Ligonier; Esther (John) Harlan, Ligonier; two stepchildren: Donna (Greg) Conrad, Arizona; Carol Vanoni, Ligonier; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Ruby (Fred) Campbell, Ligonier; and several step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Lowell Stump; and a sister: Evelyn Gaerte.

A funeral service will be held in Mr. Stump’s honor at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Yeager Funeral Home with Pastors Harlan Steffen and Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Wilmot.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Salem Cemetery, Wilmot.
