John Schmalzried, 62, North Manchester, died at 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 in his residence.

He was born October 18, 1952 in Wabash, to John C. & Peggy (Stewart) Schmalzried.

He graduated from Manchester High School in 1971. He was a longtime employee of Peabody Seating Co., North Manchester. He was then employed at CFM Majestic, Huntington. He enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee at Hardee’s. He also enjoyed railroad history, his dog “Eddie” and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He attended Congregational Christian Church, North Manchester.

He is survived by one son, Justin Schmalzried, Huntsville, Ala., and countless relatives and friends.

One sister, Janet Schmalzried, died in 2008.

Family and friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 at McKee Mortuary, North Manchester and one hour prior to services Tuesday at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut St., North Manchester.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 at Congregational Christian Church, 310 N. Walnut Street, North Manchester. Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Urbana.
